ARTIST STATEMENT

Welcome! I express my personal response to the world around me through painting. My work is an interplay of light, color, and shapes, carefully crafted to bring life to my vision. Through my dedication to the medium of painting, I capture the essence of my surroundings and transform them into thought-provoking, emotive pieces. My intuitive use of color and deliberate manipulation of light and form create a sense of harmony and balance in my artwork. The result invites viewers to explore their own reactions to the dynamic interplay of color, design, and composition in my art.

Maryellen Finan is a versatile artist based in New Jersey, whose passion lies in painting and drawing. As a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City with a degree in Illustration, she has been trained as both a designer and illustrator. Early in her career, Maryellen specialized in garment and textile design within the fashion industry.

Through her current paintings, Maryellen now explores the dynamic interplay of color, design, and composition.  Maryellen's dedication to her craft has led to participation in group and juried shows, further showcasing her talent and versatility as an artist. To refine her techniques, she has taken workshops with renowned artists like Charles Reid, Mel Stabin, and Eli Rosenthal.
